ERR
ERR means the controller lost contact with the RTD temperature sensor, or the grill's temp reading went out of range, either too high from a grease fire or too low from a flame-out. Unlike Traeger's specific codes like LEr or HEr, Pit Boss lumps all of it into one generic fault display.

ERR-RESET
ERR fires when the controller detects a temperature reading it can't reconcile, usually a sudden drop that signals flameout, or a probe signal that's stuck or erratic. The board shuts everything down as a safety measure rather than let the auger keep dumping pellets into a cold, dead firepot.
low
low
NOT-IGNITING
The grill tried to start but couldn't get combustion going. Either the igniter rod failed to reach ignition temperature, pellets never made it to the firepot, or there wasn't enough airflow to turn a smolder into a real fire. The control board detects no temperature rise after a set startup window and shuts it down.

TEMP-SWINGS
Your Pit Boss controller watches the RTD probe and runs the auger motor in timed on/off cycles to hit your target temp. When something messes with that feedback loop, like a grease-coated probe or ash blocking airflow in the firepot, the controller can't compensate fast enough and the temperature swings past your set point in both directions.
