GE Gas Stove Parts Diagram: Model Number Lookup Guide

The bottom storage drawer is your first stop. Pull it all the way out and shine a light on the left side metal rail. That's where it lives on probably 7 out of 10 GE gas ranges I've worked on. If it's not there, check the inner door frame when you open the oven, usually on the left side near the bottom. Some models, especially the Profile and Cafe lines, have a flip-up metal tag tucked behind the control panel backguard. And on a few older freestanding models from the 90s, it's actually printed right on the cooktop surface near the back burners.

Because GE makes the same stove in multiple versions and they don't always use the same parts. I'm not exaggerating. The JGBS66 comes in multiple engineering revisions and the igniter on version '01' is a completely different part number than the one on version '03'. If you just search by the main model number and ignore those last two digits, you might pull the wrong diagram entirely. Wrong diagram means wrong part. Wrong part means you've wasted $35 on shipping and you're back to square one. Get the full number, all of it, including that engineering code at the very end.

The prefix is shorthand for the appliance type and product line. JGS means slide-in gas range. JGBS means freestanding gas range with a back control panel. JGP means built-in gas cooktop. PGB or PGS usually means Profile series. CGS means Cafe. And it matters for more than just knowing what you've got. A Cafe range and a standard GE range might look almost identical from the outside but they often use different valves, different electronics, and different igniter setups. Knowing the prefix tells you right away which parts ecosystem you're working in before you even open a diagram.

Short answer: not really. The serial number tells you when and where your stove was built, which is useful, but it doesn't directly connect to a parts diagram on any of the major parts sites I use. The model number is the key for that. But here's when the serial number actually does matter: if GE made a mid-production change to a part and you're trying to figure out which version your unit has, the manufacturing date in the serial number can sometimes help. So keep both numbers written down somewhere. You don't want to be hunting for the serial number later when you're already halfway into a repair.

So you've pulled up the diagram and it looks like an exploded view of a spaceship. Here's how it works. The diagram shows every component pulled apart and spread out in the order things actually fit together. Each piece has a small number next to it, that's the reference number. You find that reference number in the parts list next to or below the diagram, and that list gives you the actual GE part number you need to order. When you order, use the GE part number, not the reference number. Reference numbers are internal to that diagram and don't mean anything at a parts counter or on a supplier's website.
